Children & Divorce -
Children need a place to process all that is going on in their family when there is a divorce. Giving your child a safe, therapeutic place to make sense of their experience, with a professional who specializes in play therapy, is a gift that will continue on for your child's lifetime. Children who are able to process their experience increase their opportunities to create healthy, lasting connections in the present and the future. Processing transition is greatly beneficial for children, as well as their parents.
You are your child's most important relationship and connection. Taking care of you, during and after your divorce, is essential. Having a place to dump, process and figure some things out, it is very helpful for your child(ren), because it is very helpful for you. When you feel supported, cared for and have a place to deal with your "stuff," then you can be the parent you desire for your family. As you take care of yourself, then you can take care of your children. You must take care of you, because you are absolutely irreplaceable in your child's life, heart, mind and soul.
